It was only Etu that saw the arrival at first. The young man occasionally passed his time in the garden, playing that strange instrument of ocean and sea breeze, bird call and lilting emotion. This eve was just the same as any of those previous occasions, with Etu tucked in the gracious branches of some accommodating tree, the small of his back resting against the trunk of it, and his eyes turned to the ground below, and those who might pass his way.
What passed beneath him was a curious sight. A young man... or was it a woman? Long black hair that gleamed blue and red in the waning sunlight framed a face as pale as fine china. The eyes were wide, and dark as the hair - but luminous somehow, as if the last rays of the sun were somehow caught in the irises. The eyelashes were long enough to lead one to suspect that it was a woman; the mouth was soft enough to lend credence to that theory. But there was something about the expression, some hardness, some mischief that was not inherently feminine. The outfit did not help. It was at first glance, a kimono designed for a man. Deep black fabric with serpentine dragons along the edge embroidered with red silk thread. But the sash that tied the kimono? That was a woman's, and it was belted as a woman would wear it - a proper lady, not a courtesan. A little petite, if a young man. Of average height if a young lady. Most curious. Most curious indeed. Etu played another trill on that instrument and the person in question looked up, right at him. "Bit of an odd place for a concert," the person said, teasingly. And the voice still gave no clue - the range hovered right in that nebulous area where one could think a female had a low and sultry voice, or a man had a bright and enchanting one. "And yet," Etu replied neutrally, "I've garnered an audience proper, it seems." ((feel free to fling who/whatever. I was bored and the forum seemed lonely.)) |

"A talented performer makes his audience, wherever he performs." The man who approached was obviously one of the Ni'ihau delegation, sharing Kaimana's browned skin and dark hair. But he was taller than Kaimana, thinner-built, with close-cropped hair and hazel eyes. He also has a more formal air to him; not stand-offish, but more of the friendly noble rather than Kaimana's easy familiarity.
He nods politely to both the people there. "Good evening to you both."

"I am flattered by your praise," Etu replied to the newcomer. He was very polite, but he did not bow or move from his spot in the tree branches. "If it pleases you to listen, I shall play awhile longer before I move on for the eve."
"Good eve to you as well, Sir," the young androgynous person bowed slightly in the midst of the speech. "I never knew this court to have proper musicians. It is nice to be wrong once in a while." Obviously, that one was planning to stay awhile and listen, if only for a moment. |

"Please do." The islander nods to Etu, and smiles to both people. He'll hold any further discussion until Etu's music finishes, unless the newcomer speaks beforehand.
